The man was eventually subdued using CS spray and arrested.
Cllr Barney Fitzpatrick said: “I am shocked at the level of violence that this man directed towards the police. It is sad to say that attacks on the police as well as other emergency services are still being carried out.
“These officers were only carrying out their duties but have received some bad injuries as a result. This was a mindless attack and I am only glad that the police were able to subdue him before he caused any serious injuries.
“I hope that all the officers that suffered injuries in this attack are able to make quick recoveries.”
