Cllr Barney Fitzpatrick said: “Attacks of this nature must end for good. There can never be any justification for violence.
“My thoughts are with the victim of this attack. I hope that he is able to make a swift recovery from his injuries, and the thugs that carried out this beating must be taken off our streets by the police.
“I would urge anybody with any information about this despicable incident to contact the police to help them with their investigation.”
