Cllr Barney Fitzpatrick said: “This was a disgusting attack on a man who was only attacked and left for dead a couple of months ago. He only got out of hospital a short time ago due to the horrendous injuries he received that night.
“These sectarian attacks must stop now. The people of Coleraine are disgusted at the small minority who are dragging the good name of the town into the dirt.
“This attack has undoubtedly increased tensions and I would call for political representatives and the community to act calmly and responsibly.
“I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the police. Until we put all those responsible for these attacks behind bars, it will be difficult for Coleraine to move forward from these incidents.”
