Farry disgusted by attack on police officer

Alliance Policing Board representative Stephen Farry has said he is disgusted after a device exploded outside the home of a serving police officer in Londonderry

The device detonated while army technical officers were trying to defuse it after its discovery under a car at Ardanlee, in the Culmore area of Derry this morning. A number of homes have been evacuated during the area.

In a separate and unrelated incident, homes have been evacuated in Sion Mills in Co Tyrone after the discovery of another suspicious object.

“This was a disgusting attack made by people who have nothing to offer the community,” said Alliance Deputy Leader Mr Farry.

“These incidents could have seen serious injury or even death for police officers or members of the public. The PSNI is there to protect everyone in the community but those responsible for the attack in Derry in particular have attempted to murder a police officer.

“Anyone with information on this disgraceful assault on the rule of law should bring it to the PSNI immediately.”
