A woman was also assaulted and taken to hospital where her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
The Alliance Party’s Westminster candidate for the area said: “This is a shocking incident and my thoughts are with the victim’s family and the whole community as they attempt to come to terms with the brutality of this attack.
“The PSNI’s investigation is on-going and I would urge anyone with information to contact officers immediately, so that those responsibly can be brought to justice immediately.”
