Duncan praises safe evacuation of local primary school

Alderman Sara Duncan has praised all involved in the safe evacuation of Belvoir Primary School earlier today.

Pupils at the school were evacuated earlier today due to a security alert which has since ended. Alderman Duncan attended the scene earlier today to see if any further help was needed.

Alderman Sara Duncan said: “Belvoir Primary School has a long standing arrangement with Belvoir Presbyterian Church for these types of emergencies and I praise all involved who ensured the evacuation went smoothly.

“However this was a very traumatic experience for all the pupils involved. I understand many were upset and did not understand what was happening.

“I must commend the teaching staff, who were unable to get back to their cars, the Minister and helpers from the church, who supplied tea, the staff of the nearby Belvoir Activity centre, who supplied drinks and crisps for the school staff and children waiting to be collected, and the PSNI who ensured everyone’s safety.

“I must reiterate what my colleague Anna Lo MLA said earlier in condemning whoever was responsible for this alert so close to a residential area. I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI at the earliest opportunity.”
