Duncan disgusted at Newtownbreda assault

Alliance Castlereagh Councillor Sara Duncan has expressed her disgust at the assault on a man in his home in the Newtownbreda area of Belfast on Monday night. Up to five masked men burst into the man’s house where they tied him up while they ransacked his house. It is believed one of the men was armed with a gun.

Cllr Sara Duncan said: “I am disgusted at the severity of the assault on this man, just so they could steal from him.

“To have five masked men burst into your home armed with weapons must have been a terrifying experience for this man. These men who carried out this attack are adding nothing to our society except to scare innocent people in their own homes. Many elderly people in the area will be scared at the thought of this attack happening to them

“While I understand the man’s injuries are not life threatening, I would like to wish him a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with him and his family at this distressful time for them. I also hope to visit this man in hospital in the coming days to personally wish him well.

“I hope that he is able to get home in time for Christmas. Being on the receiving end of this type of assault at any time is bad but at a time when you should be celebrating the Christmas season with friends and relatives must be even worse.

“I would urge anybody with any information about this assault to contact the police.”
