Duncan battles to save Newtownbreda Library

Castlereagh West Alliance Councillor, Sara Duncan, is campaigning to save Newtownbreada Library from closure. Cllr Duncan has distributed petitions throughout Newtownbreda and will request a meeting with Direct Rule Minister, David Hanson MP, to present the signed petitions to him.

Cllr Duncan said: “I was very dismayed to learn that South Eastern Education and Library Board are considering the closure of Newtownbreda Library. I decided to create petitions for local people to sign in order to try to save the library. I have provided petitions for three local newsagents, the

Newtownbreda Day Centre, two dentists and the doctor’s surgery.

“I would appeal to anyone who uses this library, or whose children do, to sign the petition and write to Beth Porter from the SEELB and the Minister David Hanson MP.

“I will be requesting a meeting with the Direct Rule Minister, David Hanson MP, in order to present the petition and lobby him to prevent the closure of this important local amenity.

“Our local Alliance team will be campaigning to save all of Castlereagh libraries that are under threat. Along with the support of local residents,

Alliance successfully lobbied to save libraries threatened with closure by Belfast Education and Library Board and we will continue to conduct similar campaigns to save libraries in the SEELB area.”
