Dickson welcomes Post Offices’ Christmas stamps scheme

Alliance East Antrim MLA, Stewart Dickson, has welcomed the introduction of the Royal Mail’s Christmas Stamp scheme. The scheme has been created to alleviate the cost of postage, which can prove prohibitive to keeping in touch, during the festive season for those who rely on Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance or Incapacity Benefits for their income.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “I welcome the new scheme that has been put in place by Royal Mail. Anything that aides those in need to fully enjoy the Festive Season must be applauded. Covering the whole of the country, this scheme will enable those on benefits to purchase a total of 36 stamps, first and second class, at last year’s prices (46p for first class and 36p for second class).

“The Royal Mail will be distributing leaflets with more information on this scheme, to every household in the United Kingdom, in the next few weeks. This leaflet will further explain the conditions and detail how to claim the discount on stamps.

Mr Dickson concluded, “I hope that this scheme is utilised by my constituents who qualify for it. I believe it can help those in need to use the postal system without fear of the prohibitive costs that can be an issue during the Christmas period. I urge my constituents to look out for the leaflet that will arrive at your door in the coming weeks, and if you qualify for the scheme, to fully utilise it.”
