Mr Dickson was speaking after the supplier announced the move, as well as reduction of five percent in the ‘Ten Towns’ area – comprising of towns such as Antrim, Armagh, Ballymena, Coleraine and Londonderry.
The Alliance representative said it was a good move for residents in the areas.
“I am delighted by this move that will see reduced prices for around 50,000 customers in the greater Belfast area, which of course covers Larne, Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey in my East Antrim constituency.
“This is especially timely as we go into winter. The 10 per cent is not only significant but it will give customers stability over the colder months. There may also be scope for further reductions in fossil fuel prices, which of course could be passed swiftly on to customers.
“I will also continue to lobby for an expansion of the gas network footprint into my constituency and work closely with the relevant organisations on the issue.”
