Dickson urges people to take extra precautions when near the open water following recent deaths

Alliance Chief Whip Stewart Dickson MLA has urged the public to be vigilant if they are near the open water. His comments follow recent deaths in river incidents in Limavady and Newtownstewart.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “Northern Ireland has been enjoying some magnificent weather in recent weeks. However, I would urge the public to take extra precautions if they are near the open water.

“People should be able to enjoy this good weather but I would urge them to treat the water with respect. You should not enter the water in any dangerous area and you should let somebody know where you are going and when you expect to return.

“I was very saddened by the deaths of James Kincaid from Newtownstewart and Steven Mitchell from Doagh, in river incidents. I would like to express my condolences to their families. Their deaths have highlighted the dangers of the open water.”
