Dickson says Nesbitt has not been able to get UUP out of downward spiral

Alliance Chief Whip Stewart Dickson MLA has stated that Mike Nesbitt has not been able to define a clear message for the UUP or get the UUP out of the downward spiral that they have been in for several years. Stewart’s comments follow Mike Nesbitt’s leader’s speech to the UUP conference at the Titanic signature project.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “Mike Nesbitt has tried to be everything to everybody but has failed to provide any sort of identity for the UUP. In his first six months as leader, Mike has not been able to achieve anything to change the downward spiral that the UUP have found themselves in.

“He tries to claim that he has made the UUP modern and progressive, but he continues to evoke the ghost of Carson and Craig at every turn. Even Peter Robinson loves to point out that there is next to no difference between the policies of the DUP and UUP.

“Mike is obviously concerned at a recent poll that shows that the Alliance Party is clearly ahead of the UUP. He is struggling to define the purpose of the UUP to the public.”
