Dickson offers his condolences following fire deaths

Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson has offered his condolences to those who died in a fire in Co Dublin at the weekend.

Speaking during a Matter of the Day in the Assembly, Mr Dickson said the deaths were an “immense tragedy”. Ten people, including five children, died at the travellers’ site in Carrickmines on Saturday (October 10). The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Dickson said his sympathies were with those involved.

“One can only conceive of the unimaginable horror these poor people went through in the midst of this immense tragedy.

“I pay tribute to the Dublin Fire Service, who carried out their job to the best of their abilities and possibly prevented further tragedy striking.

“While nothing can bring back these poor people, I hope lessons are learnt around fire safety in order to prevent a repeat of this terrible situation.”
