Alliance Chief Whip Stewart Dickson MLA has welcomed the decision to recall the Assembly to discuss the issues raised in the BBC Spotlight investigation into Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland. The Alliance Party is proposing an amendment to the debate on Monday to ensure that any inquiry into these allegations is independent.
Stewart Dickson MLA said: “I welcome the decision to recall the Assembly to discuss such important and serious issues. There still remain several questions that the Minister must answer.
“We believe that there must be an independent inquiry into these allegations. We have therefore submitted an amendment to Monday’s debate to ensure that any such inquiry has an independent basis.
“I hope there will be unanimous support for an independent inquiry during Monday’s debate, even from those who are looking to defend the Minister.
“Once this decision is made on Monday, the Minister should stand aside temporarily while this inquiry investigates the issues that have been raised by this Spotlight programme.”
