Dickson calls on OFMDFM to take heed of report on Attorney General

Alliance Justice Spokesperson, Stewart Dickson MLA, has urged the First and Deputy First Minister to take heed of a report into the role and responsibilities of the Attorney General John Larkin. The report was carried out by former Scottish Advocate Dame Elish Angiolini and was compiled before the controversy over his decision to get involved in the Marie Stopes debate.

Mr Dickson said: “I urge the First and Deputy First Minister to note the contents of this report and take the necessary steps to increase clarity with regards to the role and responsibility of the Attorney General.

“The controversy around his decision to become involved in the Marie Stopes debate was partly facilitated by a lack of understanding of the Attorney General’s role and responsibilities with regard to such issues.”

Mr Dickson concluded: “I hope that the positive recommendations in this report are fully implemented thus avoiding any repeat of his handling of the Marie Stopes situation.”
