Dickson asks Finance Minister for update on Air Passenger Duty issue

East Antrim Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson has asked the Finance Minister for an update about the devolution of powers relating to Air Passenger Duty in Assembly questions to the Minister. He said the issue is one of paramount importance to retaining and developing the air routes from Northern Ireland.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “I asked the Finance Minister for an update on the devolution of powers relating to Air Passenger Duty as I believe action on this issue is absolutely crucial. This matter is one which is key to retaining and developing the air routes from Northern Ireland.

“Promises alone will not make airlines stay operating from Northern Ireland’s airports and while the work done already is very welcome, a promise in itself is simply not enough – we need action and legislation. Our air routes are extremely important, not only to our tourism industry, but also to our whole economy because they play a pivotal infrastructure role in helping attract businesses to invest here and in fostering strong trade links with other parts of the world.

“I am pleased with the reassurances given to me by the Minister and I would like to see the moves in relation to legislation progressed as soon as possible.”
