Cochrane welcomes ‘Pink Night’ initiative at Ulster Rugby match

Alliance East Belfast MLA Judith Cochrane, who is vice-chair of the Assembly Group on Rugby and secretary of the Assembly Group on Cancer, has welcomed the ‘Pink Night’ initiative being launched next Friday 25th October by Ulster Rugby as part of their collaborative ‘Kick Cancer Into Touch’ campaign in partnership with Cancer Research UK.

Through the partnership with Cancer Research UK, over the course of the 2013/2014 season Ulster Rugby will promote and support the life-saving work that the charity does in Northern Ireland, bolstered by four match day collections at Ravenhill and four fundraising events throughout the year.

Judith Cochrane MLA said:”Cancer Research UK is the only charity to research all 200 forms of cancer, and yet does so without Government funding for what is life-saving research.

“Every hour someone in Northern Ireland is diagnosed with cancer, and the partnership with Ulster Rugby for the season ahead can only enhance their capacity to make a difference here in Northern Ireland. It is great to see rugby being used to highlight such an important issue.

“The initiative being hosted at Ravenhill next Friday will not only help to raise funds, but also awareness about the valuable work being undertaken by the charity.”

It will be pink verses blue on match night with fun and entertainment including pink ticket programme prizes, a pink duck auction courtesy of Hastings Hotels, a Premium Lounge ballot and a prize for the best pink outfit!
