Cochrane welcomes investment from new housing association

Alliance East Belfast MLA, Judith Cochrane, has welcomed the merger between OakleeTrinity and Ulidia Housing Associations, to form Choice, the largest housing association in Northern Ireland. She was speaking after Choice announced an investment package to build more than 2,500 new homes over the next five years, creating 1,200 jobs.

Speaking following the launch at Titanic Belfast, Judith Cochrane MLA said: “Housing Associations play an important role in our community in providing both social and low cost homes.

“OakleeTrinity and Ulidia Housing Associations have been working hard over the years to provide affordable housing, but by merging to form the largest housing association in Northern Ireland, it gives a real opportunity to deliver on a bigger scale. There will undoubtedly be savings through economies of scale, which can be passed onwards.

“Their commitment to build 2,500 new homes over the next five years will be big boost to our construction sector which struggled after the economic downturn.

“I would like to wish all those involved in Choice all the best as they work towards their ambitious plans to deliver more social and affordable housing in Northern Ireland.”
