Cochrane reminds parents to apply for 2015 nursery places now

East Belfast Alliance MLA Judith Cochrane has urged parents across Northern Ireland to remember to apply for a pre-school place in coming weeks, if their children fall under the current age criteria.

As part of the Programme for Government, Children born between July 2, 2011 and July 1, 2012 are eligible for a year of pre-school education starting in September 2015. And with the application deadline on January 14 only weeks away, Judith is suggesting all parents use the intervening time to visit local nurseries and pre-school places in advance of the closing date.

Judith Cochrane MLA said, “As a Mum of primary school children, I know how busy this time of year can be, but I cannot emphasise enough the importance of visiting your local pre-school providers to ask about specific entrance criteria so that you make the best choices when completing the application form.”

“In previous years I have seen children miss out on a place in one of their preferred settings because of poorly informed selections at the time of application.

“Parents can find out more information by visiting the Education& Library Boards’ websites in the coming days, as well as liaising with pre-school providers. I’m also keen to help parents navigate through the application process and can be contacted at my Ballyhackamore office on 028 9065 2317 or by email at”
