Judith Cochrane MLA said: “There can be no justification for any attack on the police. My thoughts are with those officers who are attempting to maintain law and order in difficult circumstances. I am also concerned for the well-being of local residents who do not want this violence.
“I would appeal for calm at this time with tensions running high. There must be responsible leadership on all sides. This violence must be condemned by all without equivocation.
“This violence must stop before somebody is seriously injured or worse.
“If anybody has any information about this latest violence then I would urge them to contact the police.”
