Cochrane condemns attack on police officers in East Belfast

Alliance East Belfast MLA Judith Cochrane has condemned the trouble that broke out near the Short Stand area of East Belfast which resulted in two officers being injured last night. There was a heavy police presence in the area to keep rival groups of nationalists and loyalists apart.

Judith Cochrane MLA said: “There is no justification for any attack on the police. They are there to maintain the rule of law. Everybody should show their support for law and order by fully respecting the Police.

“The Police are the only people who should be investigating any public order incidents, nobody should look to take the law into their own hands.

“I hope that these two officers will make a swift recovery from the injuries they sustained.”
