Cochrane calls on the people of East Belfast to Dechox

Alliance East Belfast MLA and chocolate lover Judith Cochrane is encouraging the people East Belfast to join her and give up chocolate for the whole month of March as part of a new British Heart Foundation (BHF) Northern Ireland fundraising campaign: Dechox.

As a self-confessed chocoholic, Judith will be turning her back on her favourite chocolate treats for the whole month so that she can raise awareness and vital funds for BFH Northern Ireland.

Judith Cochrane MLA, pictured withe fellow dechoxer Pam Cameron MLA, says: “I’m supporting BHF Northern Ireland’s Dechox campaign because it’s a great opportunity for me to raise awareness and funds for the charity as well as get a little healthier. I love chocolate but as I’m turning 40 this year and suffer from high blood pressure I’m hoping there will be some health benefits after a whole month off it.

“That’s why I’m encouraging the people of Northern Ireland to join me and take part in the fundraising campaign, Dechox, asking people to give up chocolate for the month of March and help raise money for lifesaving heart research. It’s going to be difficult for people who love chocolate, like me, but we’ll all be in it together and it’s for such a great cause.”

Dechox is a UK wide sponsored challenge calling on all chocolate lovers to give up their favourite sweet treat for the month of March to help raise money for the charity.

Dechoxers are encouraged to raise money throughout the month by asking friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them to take on the challenge. They can also donate the money they’ve saved from ditching a cheeky chocolate bar at work or that naughty dessert after a meal out.

One in four of our loved ones are lost to heart and circulatory disease each year and there are currently 225,000 people living with the disease in Northern Ireland. By taking part in Dechox and raising funds for BHF Northern Ireland, Dechoxers will be joining the fight for every heartbeat, helping BHF Northern Ireland to continue its lifesaving work.
