Cllr Patrick Clarke stated: “I am very pleased that the figures regarding visitor numbers for the mountain bike trails at Castlewellan Forest Park have surpassed all expectations.
“Since only opening a few short months ago, initial visitor figures indicate that over 4,000 mountain bikers are visiting each month.
“It is a very welcome economic boost to the local economy with mountain bikers spending money in the hospitality outlets as well as booking accommodation and visiting the local shops and businesses in Castlewellan.
“Following the success of the mountain bike trails, I would encourage people to also visit the Peace Maze, Walled Gardens, Arboretum, Lake, Grange buildings and Courtyard in Castlewellan Forest Park.”
