County Down’s Bethany Firth was competing in the S14 event at the IPC World Championships.
Councillor Patrick Clarke said: “This is a fantastic achievement for a remarkable up and coming athlete from Northern Ireland.
“I want to personally congratulate Bethany on securing her latest achievement. She is a great role model for her peers, achieving her goals through hard work and determination.
“Sport is a great tool to unite the whole community and I hope everyone across South Down can join me in congratulating a talented young athlete who we all can be proud of.”
