Clarke calls for Down Council to have a civic reception for local gold medallist Bethany Firth

Alliance Down Councillor Patrick Clarke has called for gold medallist Bethany Firth to be given a civic reception. The Seaford native won gold in the 100m backstroke in the Paralympics on Friday. He has also asked for a letter of congratulations to be sent from the Council to her.

Councillor Patrick Clarke said: “In light of the tremendous success of local teenager Bethany Firth, I think it is only right that Down Council hosts a civic reception in her honour.

“Bethany Firth has shown great determination and rightly deserves to be honoured by Down District Council for her success in winning a gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympics.

“I hope that my Council colleagues will agree with this idea and we rightly have an opportunity to congratulate her.”
