Blair calls on Consumer Council to hold more information sessions for customers

Alliance MLA John Blair has called on the Consumer Council to hold more information sessions after it was revealed some customers’ electricity tariffs could rise by almost 14 per cent.Mr Blair was speaking after Power NI said its tariffs would increase 13.8 per cent from October 1, its biggest price hike in five years. As a result, the Consumer Council will be holding an ‘Energy Saving Workshop’ next Tuesday (August 28) at 10am at Seatem House in Alfred Street, Belfast. He said other similar events would be helpful.

“Given the news from Power NI, this event is a welcome one, with advice for people on how to find a better deal,” said South Antrim MLA Mr Blair.

“However, given it is in Belfast and during the day midweek, many people will not be able to attend who could otherwise benefit from the expert information provided. I am therefore calling on the Consumer Council to roll out similar advice clinics in other areas of Northern Ireland.

“I know my constituents in South Antrim would want to know more about what options are available to them and I am sure that will be replicated in other places as well. I have contacted the Consumer Council to ask them to provide more workshops across Northern Ireland and will continue pushing the issue so as many people as possible can avail of the information provided by the organisation.”
