Authorities appear well prepared to deal with swine flu

As the first case of swine flu in Northern Ireland was confirmed by the Department of Health, Alliance Health Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has said he believes the authorities are well prepared to deal with the problem. A man who returned from a holiday in Mexico with his wife and children has been confirmed as having the virus.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “This is the first case of swine flu in Northern Ireland, but people should not be too concerned as the authorities have strong plans in place to try and stop it spreading.

“The man who has caught swine flu and his family are very much in my thoughts at this time and I hope he will make a speedy recovery.

“The health authorities are well prepared to deal with this matter and I would hope that the measures they have taken can prevent swine flu from being passed on to anyone else.”
