Armitage takes place in walk to remember the Srebrenica genocide

Alliance Councillor David Armitage took part in a walk aiming to raise awareness of the Srebrenica genocide this weekend.

Starting at City Hall, the event saw those taking part make their way to St Anne’s Cathedral, before returning to City Hall to see out the route.

Over the past number of months David has worked to raise awareness of the massacre in July 1995 and his participation in the walk follows a motion he brought to Belfast City Council in June.

“This was a horrendous act of violence and it is important we stand together to remember what happened, despite the Serbs attempts to whitewash it from history.

“The stories of suffering are many and beyond what many of us can imagine. Fathers, brothers and sons all murdered – we must remember them.

“On Sunday we have the opportunity to show the world that Belfast does not believe anyone should be targeted or dehumanised because they are seen to be different. Together we make one great, diverse city and I hope to see as many people taking part on Sunday to illustrate just how compassionate we are as well,” he said.
