Alliance Councillor David Armitage has described those behind an attack on an East Belfast church as ‘mindless thugs’.
The local Alliance representative was speaking after vandals broke into St Patrick’s Church of Ireland at Ballymacarrett, throwing bibles around before spraying them with a fire extinguisher.
Councillor David Armitage said: “This is a shocking attack on a place or worship, carried out by thugs who have shown a complete lack of respect to all those who value the presence of this church in their daily lives.
“I have been in touch with the Minister and his wife this afternoon to aid him not only to outline to local resources available to them as they move forward, but also to reaffirm my support and the support of the local community in standing against the perpetrators.
“I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible.”
