Alliance welcomes PAC action on airport runway inquiry

East Belfast Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle has welcomed the Planning Appeals Commission’s announcement that it is unable to go ahead with the public inquiry into the proposed extension of Belfast City Airport runway until all relevant information is provided.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “I welcome this action by the Planning Appeals Commission. The point of the inquiry is to ensure an open, transparent and fair process and it’s important that the airport co-operates fully.

“The environmental and noise issues are key considerations, so having the fullest possible information available at the earliest juncture is critical to both objectors and the airport receiving a fair hearing. People in the area have real concerns about the proposed runway extension and only when all the necessary information is made available can this public inquiry take place.”

Naomi Long MP said: “The PAC is right to expect full disclosure at the outset and I would urge the airport to provide the required information.

“The airport’s original objection was the delay, and yet by not providing this information upfront they are at risk of causing further delay unnecessarily.”
