Alliance underlines its commitment to adult training

Alliance Employment and Learning Spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA has welcomed the announcement by Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry that the adult apprenticeship scheme will continue to be funded.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “It is a sign of the Alliance Party’s commitment to adult training that this scheme will continue to operate. These are extremely challenging times and it is very positive that rather than cease funding for the scheme, as was one of the options in the January 2011 saving plan, it will continue to be funded.

“Apprenticeships are a vital access point to employment and provide people with an excellent opportunity to gain training and skills.

“The returns for our economy which are created by the public money invested in apprenticeships are very significant and it’s very positive that the Minister is committed to apprenticeships as a central approach to helping build our economy.

“I also welcome the fact that there will be a review of adult training to ensure a more efficient and targeted spend in future years.”
