Chris Lyttle MLA said: “It is imperative that a Green New Deal-style strategy is implemented here.
“We have wind and tidal resources in abundance and we need to tap into these to help us become a leading light in this sector.
“Also, our construction sector is potentially going to take a massive hit with the brutal reduction in our capital budget imposed by Westminster. This impact can be offset by a Green New Deal which would deliver a massive home, business and public sector building insulation scheme which will create many jobs and help lower people’s heating bill at this tough time.
“There’s massive economic potential in the green economy here and we need to unlock this potential to drive our economy forward. It would be scandalous if the opportunities that are available to us on sustainability were not taken by this Executive. That’s why I am calling for the urgent implementation of a Green New Deal.”
