Alliance representatives urge vigilance following distraction burglaries in East Belfast

Alliance representatives have urged the public to vigilant following two attempted distraction burglaries in the Inverleith Drive on Wednesday night. The burglars posed as police officers and were let into the houses before stealing a wallet. A third attempt to be let into another house failed.

Naomi Long MP said: “The public must be vigilant against any sort of distraction burglary. If a legitimate Police officer or an employee from an energy company knocks on your door then they will be only too happy to show their identification. If they do not have any identification then you should not let them in and you should immediately ring the Police.”

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “People feel like they have had their privacy invaded when they are the victim of a burglary. These burglars are obviously malicious individuals with no care for their victims.”

Judith Cochrane MLA said: “I would urge anybody with any information about these burglaries to contact the police. These men must be apprehended by the police and brought to justice before the courts.”
