Alliance pledges to continuing working with people of Omagh on issues

Alliance Leader Naomi Long MLA has pledged her party will continue to engage with the people of Omagh on a range of issues, following a number of meetings in the area.Mrs Long was speaking after leading an Alliance delegation, including recently selected Omagh candidate for next May’s Council election Stephen Donnelly, along with party MLAs Kellie Armstrong and John Blair, to meet with locals at the Silverbirch Hotel on a number of issues.

“We first met with people to discuss the regeneration of Omagh town centre,” she said.

“It was an important chance to speak to people about what is impacting them and the barriers to achieving the regeneration the town needs, and is one of a series of meetings Alliance is having across Fermanagh and Tyrone.

Topics raised includes public transport links, both within Omagh and also between the town and surrounding villages.

“We outlined Alliance’s commitment to the A5 project, as well as the wider development of the road infrastructure and transport network in the north-west. A positive resolution of these matters will not only benefit the people of Omagh, but the entire economy and tourism industry.”

It was followed by a meeting with the United Against Mining group in An Creaghán. Stephen Donnelly said it was part of continuing work by the party in the constituency.

“It was good to meet the group, made up of different environmental organisations, and reiterate our concerns about the scale and potential long-term impact of what is being proposed in the Sperrins. Alliance agreed the health and wellbeing of local people must be prioritised.

“We must ensure we do not allow unsustainable development to occur which compromises the environment and people’s livelihoods. Alliance looks forward to continuing to work on the concerns raised with us in these engagements and the others we have had across the constituency, and if elected to Council in May, I will represent the people of Omagh on the issues which matter to them.”
