East Belfast Alliance Councillor, Naomi Long has condemned the actions of those who launched a pipe bomb attack against Mountpottinger PSNI station overnight as “utterly despicable”.
An elderly lady found the pipe bomb in an alleyway in the Madrid Street area. Police said she had a narrow escape after picking up the device.
Cllr Long said: “It is utterly despicable that anyone would launch such an attack on police officers who are providing a service to the community. The fact that they are prepared to put the lives of local people at risk in doing so proves that those responsible have no regard whatsoever for the community.”
“The pensioner, who picked up the device, was lucky to escape with her life and must be terribly shaken by the incident. Overnight, we have seen pensioners across the city directly affected by this kind of mindless violence.”
“I would call upon anyone with information to pass it on to the PSNI to ensure that those who launched the attack are brought to justice.”
