Strangford MLA Kieran McCarthy said: “RTE must maintain their medium wave service so that a massive number of local people do not miss out on RTE Radio 1.
“I want to commend the Irish News for highlighting this problem.
“People here need RTE to keep their medium wave service or else they will be left will poorer reception or may lose out on their Radio 1 broadcasts altogether.
“This problem could affect thousands of people in Northern Ireland. It would be very foolish of RTE, from a public relations perspective, to end the medium wave broadcast as they could lose thousands of listeners. Surely they can see the damage this would do to their reputation in Northern Ireland.”
