Newry and Armagh Alliance representative Jackie Coade has said caution and civic responsibility must be the watchwords going forward, ahead of new restrictions being introduced in the BT60 postcode area.
Health Minister Robin Swann announced the area will join the list of those where restrictions will occur on gatherings in private homes as of 5pm today (Friday).
“It is disappointing we have got to this point, however it is important while cases in the BT60 area are on the rise we adhere to government health advice in order to prevent an increase in cases and to save lives,” said Ms Coade.
“Whatever our concerns about how the new restrictions were communicated, the core message is clear – transmission is not out of control but it is rising at an uncomfortable level. Caution and civic responsibility must be the watchwords.
“I would urge the public to continue to show caution, and to remember the key messages of hand hygiene, physical distancing and face coverings in indoor public spaces.”
