Alliance Leader Naomi Long MLA has extended her sympathies to the people of London after a suspected terrorist attack in the city this morning.
A man was arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences after a car crashed outside the Houses of Parliament, injuring several people, around 7.30am. Two people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“My thoughts are with those affected and injured by today’s incident, and I am thankful it did not result in an even worse situation,” said Mrs Long.
“I want to praise Parliamentary security and the emergency services for their quick response to this attack, which undoubtedly prevented further injuries and perhaps even worse. The security measures installed following a terrorist attack in 2017 appear to have also helped.
“Any attacks such as these bring a determination to not allow terrorism or those who carry it out to undermine our democracy and its core principles. We will not give in to those who seek to change that.”
