Councillor Kelly was speaking after the Ambulance Service employee received a hand injury by the man, following a two-car crash on the Dublin Road yesterday (Thursday). The man, who needed treatment, allegedly became aggressive and kicked and punched the paramedic treating him. Two police officers attending the scene were also allegedly assaulted.
“This attack must be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” said Councillor Kelly.
“Health staff do a fantastic job in often extremely challenging circumstances, even without attacks such as these. To add to that burden by assaulting this paramedic is disgusting. Action needs to be taken to show such incidents are completely unacceptable. Any punishment must be severe in order to act as a future deterrent.”
