The project is supported by the Department for Employment and Learning’s Skills Solutions Service with training delivered by the Belfast Metropolitan College and Northern Regional College. It is aimed at unemployed people with a background in welding.
Chris Lyttle MLA said: “I am very pleased that the Employment and Learning Minister is looking to improve the skills set of our workers.
“This announcement will enable Harland and Wolff to attract more specialised welding contracts and increase the size of their workforce. This welding academy will help Harland and Wolff continue our proud industrial heritage in Belfast.
“The Minister has prioritised the up-skilling of the Northern Ireland workforce which has helped attract investment by other companies in our economy.”
