Cllr Alan Lawther said: “This is very welcome news that a rail link to Belfast International Airport has been included in these proposals for investment in the rail network. I believe that this rail link will be vital as we look to increase investment and tourism in Northern Ireland.
“The International Airport must be one of the few major airports that doesn’t currently have a rail link. This must be rectified if we are to improve our international image and entice more people out of their cars. It would also be good for the local economy if approval is given for this rail link.
“More and more people are using public transport, however, if we are to further increase passenger numbers then we must make a serious level of investment in the rail network.
