Stephen Farry MLA said: “I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of this soldier. This is such a tragic loss of life and shows that the dangers that our brave service personnel routinely face in Afghanistan.
“He was playing his part in bringing peace and stability to a troubled country. The courage shown by our soldiers in working in such a hostile environment to bring security to the region should be rightly commended and praised.
“I know that the local community in Holywood will be saddened by the news that this soldier has lost his life.”
