Ford welcomes new Alliance General Secretary

Alliance Leader David Ford MLA has welcomed new Alliance General Secretary Sharon Lowry into her job.

David Ford MLA said: “I would like to welcome Sharon into the Alliance team and I look forward to working with her as we continue to make real progress in achieving our aims and goals.

“Alliance is a growing party both in terms of the number of members and of politicians. Being the General Secretary of a vibrant and dynamic party will be a challenging role, but Sharon’s previous experience and skills will ensure that she is more than capable of handling this task.

“I would also like to pay tribute to Stephen Douglas who was the acting General Secretary for the past year and where he helped Alliance achieve its highest number of MLAs and a second Executive Ministry. These gains as well as the 14 extra Alliance Councillors who were elected in May are a tribute to his hard work and effort.”

Sharon Lowry said: “The Alliance Party has been offering sustainable and economically wise policies since it was established in 1970. The Party has been at the forefront in working on behalf of all sides of our community and promoting a Shared Future.

“Alliance has achieved a series of gains in the previous 18 months with an MP, two Executive Ministers, another MLA and 14 additional Councillors. I hope to be able to build on these gains and ensure that this momentum is continued and the Alliance message and policies are delivered by even more politicians and Ministers.

“I am looking forward to working with some of Northern Ireland’s leading politicians and with the party associations and members.”
