Funding for Nomadic will be good for tourism – Cochrane

Alliance Social Development spokesperson and East Belfast MLA Judith Cochrane has welcomed the news that the Nomadic, a tender ship for the Titanic, has received £3 million of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help its restoration. The Department of Social Development which bought the vessel in 2006 has already said it will contribute £1 million of funding.

Judith Cochrane MLA said: “This is great news that the Heritage Lottery fund will contribute £3 million to the restoration of the Nomadic. It will be a big benefit for tourism in Belfast.

“This small tender ship is one of the few remaining links to the Titanic and it is only right that it is restored and kept at the birthplace of the most famous ship in the world.

“As we near the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic we are already seeing an increase in interest in the famous ship and this funding for the Nomadic will ensure that we can secure the future of this small tender.”
