Kelly expresses outrage at second pipe bomb in Antrim

Alliance Antrim Councillor Neil Kelly has expressed his outrage after a second pipe bomb was found in Antrim. The device was found on a window-sill on Thursday morning in the Beechfield area of Antrim, it did not explode and was dealt with by the police. This follows a similar device that was found in the Fir Groove Lane area of Antrim on Wednesday morning.

Cllr Neil Kelly said: “This is an extremely worrying trend that there has been a second attempted pipe bomb attack in two days in Antrim. The whole community has been outraged at these attacks.

“Nobody wants Northern Ireland to return to the dark days of the Troubles. It was never right that these attacks happened in the past, it is still not right now and it will never be right.

“I have absolutely no idea why these families have been targeted in this manner. These pipe bombs kill and injury indiscriminately. The people behind this attack obviously do not care about the consequences of their actions. There is no support for these people, they are just a small minority that is stuck in the past while the rest of Northern Ireland has moved on and supported the peace process.

“If anybody has any information about this pipe bomb then they should contact the police. The only relief coming out of these two attacks is the fact that nobody was injured or killed.”
