Yvonne Boyle said: “I am totally appalled at this murder. The brutality of this is shooting is unfathomable and the whole city is in shock.
“It appears that police are still trying to establish a motive for the killing. Anyone who feels they can assist them with their investigation should contact them urgently.
“There will obviously be speculation that this was a paramilitary shooting given the nature of it, but no-one can be sure of this.
“Northern Ireland had hoped it had seen the last of incidents like this. It harks back to the darkest days of the troubles and my thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victim.”
