Northern Ireland must heed environmental survey results before its too late – Alliance

Alliance Party Environment Spokesperson, Cllr Alan Lawther, has expressed shock that a World Wildlife Fund survey revealed that if the whole world used resources like Northern Ireland does, three planets would be needed to sustain it. The WWF’s biannual Living Planet Report containing the information was published today.

The Antrim Councillor said: “This report provides us with shocking details about the UK’s over-use of natural resources.

“People should be looking into more ways of helping protect the environment.

“A government scheme to help people convert to using green energy systems in their homes was recently introduced. I would strongly encourage people to apply for this funding, as such systems can make a real difference.

“I would also encourage everyone to recycle as much household waste as they can. Everyone can make an impact in helping the environment and it takes only small changes in people’s lifestyles to do so.”
