Alliance West Belfast representative Donnamarie Higgins has said whoever carried out the shooting in West Belfast does not represent anyone in the community and must be condemned.

Ms Higgins said: “Yet again guns have been brought onto the streets of Belfast and a young man shot. This must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. It is shocking that this took place beside a polling station, where people were exercising their democratic right to elect representatives to be part of the next government.

“Whoever was behind this shooting need to realise that they have no support whatsoever in West Belfast and need to stop terrorising this community. I would urge anyone with information about this attack to pass it to the police on the 101 number, or anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
