Local Alliance Belfast Councillor Maire Hendron has described the violence on Wednesday night in the Lower Newtownards Road in which missiles were thrown as shameful. The previous night a Catholic church in the area was vandalised.
Cllr Maire Hendron said: “This was an organised attack by mindless thugs who have nothing to offer our society. These were not kids, but adults who were involved in this violence.
“A pensioner’s home was targeted by some of the crowd which I find completely incomprehensible.
“This was a nasty, shameful and vicious incident that should not have happened. The police must step in when these groups of people start to gather to prevent it turning into an incident like we saw last night.
“If anybody has any information about this violence then they must contact the police.”
