Alliance Health spokesperson Paula Bradshaw MLA has welcomed news a support service for victims of historical institutional abuse (HIA) will be in place for the arrival of the new Commissioner into post in December.
The South Belfast MLA stated: “This is a vital next step towards the recognition and justice HIA victims have waited for for too long.
“It makes sense to use the existing Victims Support Service but strong efforts will be needed to ensure the particular circumstances of HIA victims are emphasised and given due priority.
“Nevertheless, this will be well timed with the new HIA Commissioner coming into post before Christmas, and it is to be hoped it will work speedily to support those who have for too long been victims without a voice.”
